Why should I train with Keira Newton?

  • Because kettlebells break with the linear, isolated movements of the weight room in favor of a more holistic approach, and Keira will help you to build a strong technical foundation.

  • Keira is one of just a few RKC (Russian Kettlebell Challenge) certified instructors in the state of New Mexico. She has the skill set and the training experience to communicate the fundamentals of kettlebell training. She continues to invest in professional development. She has completed her advanced, level II training in June of 2008. She also attended the CK-FMS training in August of 2008.

  • Keira is a certified Feldenkrais® practitioner. Feldenkrais® is a form of bodywork that teaches the "functional integration" of the whole self to support "awareness through movement." She has worked at McGhee-Smithback Physical Therapy since 2001.

  • Because the kettlebell demands total-body synchronization of movement, it is important to have an informed instructor who can communicate best practices. Keira´s knowledge of body mechanics and experience with rehabilitating men and women of all ages, sizes, and ailments makes her an excellent choice for kettlebell training.

Keira´s experience with kettlebells

"I started with kettlebell training at the outset of my second pregnancy in 2005. The exercises satisfied all my fitness needs. First, I had a nursing infant that I couldn´t leave for long stretches, and the kettlebell allowed me to get an intense, 15minute workout in my living room and still be within five feet of my baby. Secondly, I was able to maintain my workout schedule into the eighth month of my pregnancy.

If a woman wants to prepare for the strains of labor, she can´t do much better than using a kettlebell. Finally, the increased body awareness fostered by the dynamic movements of kettlebell training served me in my professional sphere.

"I gained 44 pounds during my second pregnancy (from a normal bodyweight of 110 pounds). After recuperating for five weeks, I picked up my kettlebell again.

In four months, I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight. A year later, I had lost another seven pounds and three waist sizes. Most impressive to me was that as I was getting leaner and also getting stronger. After starting my kettlebell training with an 8 kg. bell (18 lbs), I am currently using a 16 kg. bell (35.3 lbs)."
